Ladies it is time to get excited for the 2010 golf season
We are looking forward to the inaugural SLGA MATCHPLAY. What is match play you ask? Match Play is when you compete against one player in a head to head match keeping track of holes won. It is your net score versus your opponent’s net score on each hole. The winner of the match is the player who has won more holes than there are left to play. If the match is tied after 18 holes the player to win the next hole is the winner of the match. The player with the higher handicap is entitled to the difference between her handicap and her opponent’s handicap. That difference equates to the number of strokes that player will receive during the match
Match Example:
Player A scores a 6 net 6 on hole #1 while Player B scores a 6 net 5. Player B has won the hole and is 1 up in the match through one hole. This will continue until one player is up more holes than there are left to play.
Handicap Example:
Player A plays to a course handicap of 15 while Player B plays to a course handicap of 32. This entitles Player B the difference of their handicaps OR 17 strokes in the match. Player B will receive those strokes on the holes with a handicap rating 1-17 designated on the score card. So don’t be intimidated if you have a higher handicap.
Opening matches will be blind drawn into a bracket during the tournament reception on April 30, 2010. Players will have one month to schedule and complete their first round match. Each successive round’s matches will commence at the beginning of the month and must be completed by the end of the month. Thus the final match for the championship will be held in September.
The fee for this event is $40 and includes hors d’oeuvres at the reception, prize fund and a winner’s trophy. Sign-ups will be with the golf shop. The deadline to sign-up is April 20, 2010.This is a first come first serve basis. The maximum number of participants will be 32 players.
